Start with scope: one channel, one app, or everything?

Before touching a setting, spend two minutes narrowing where the drift lives. Play two or three different IPTV channels, then play something from a completely different app on the same device. If everything drifts — including other apps — the problem is your TV or audio equipment. If only the IPTV app drifts, look at its decoder settings. If exactly one channel drifts, the problem is that channel’s source.

Cause one: your TV or soundbar is delaying the audio

Modern TVs run video through processing — motion smoothing, upscaling, dynamic contrast — that takes real time, and the audio path may not be delayed to match. Soundbars and AV receivers add their own processing on top, especially in surround or dialogue-enhancement modes. The result is audio that leads or trails the picture on every source, not just IPTV.

The fix is to cut processing out of the path. Switch the TV to its game or low-latency picture mode and turn off motion smoothing, then set the soundbar to a plain stereo or passthrough mode. Most TVs and soundbars also have an audio delay or lip-sync adjustment buried in the sound menu; if a fixed offset remains after disabling processing, dial it out there in small steps.

Cause two: the app is decoding in software

Player apps decode video either with the device’s dedicated video hardware or with the general-purpose CPU. Hardware decoding keeps audio and video locked together cheaply; software decoding can fall behind on a weak device, and when video lags while audio plays on time, you get progressive desync that worsens the longer the stream runs. Generic players often default to software decoding for compatibility.

Open the app’s playback settings and switch the decoder to hardware, or to the option sometimes labeled hardware-plus, then restart the stream. If sync starts clean and drifts over minutes, this is very likely your cause. Cause three: the stream source itself has drifted

Sometimes the audio and video are misaligned inside the stream before it ever reaches you. Encoders at the source can drift, and when that happens the desync is identical on every device and every app, but only on that one channel — the neighboring channels are fine. No setting on your end can fix a stream that arrives already out of step.

Confirm it by playing the same channel on a second device or in the web player; if the drift matches exactly, stop adjusting your equipment. Report the channel to your provider with the channel name and rough time you noticed it. Cause four: HDMI ARC is mishandling timing

If your soundbar or receiver gets audio from the TV over HDMI ARC or eARC, that return channel is a common desync source. ARC handshakes can settle into a bad state after devices sleep and wake, adding a delay that was not there yesterday. The telltale is drift that appears across all sources after a power cycle or input change, then sometimes clears on its own.

First try the classic reset: unplug the HDMI cable between TV and soundbar for thirty seconds with both devices off, then reconnect and power on the TV first. If drift keeps returning, consider bypassing ARC — connect your streaming device directly to the soundbar or receiver and pass video through it to the TV, so audio never rides the return channel at all.

A five-minute diagnostic, in order

Run the checks in this order and stop at the first one that changes the behavior. One: play a non-IPTV app — if it drifts too, fix the TV and audio chain. Two: switch your IPTV app’s decoder to hardware and restart the stream. Three: check whether the drift is on one channel or all channels, using a second device to confirm. Four: power-cycle the ARC handshake if your audio runs through a soundbar or receiver.
